Some Problems in High Energy Astrophysics

Space Grant funds were used primarily to support graduate students in Tsuruta's group working on theoretical and observational problems associated with active galactic nuclei (AGN). The "cloud" model of AGN was further developed, and X-ray spectra taken with the Japanese satellite Ginga were analyzed.

• One Graduate student support (student subsequently supported as RA on regular NASA research grant)
• Four publications in the Astrophysical Journal, Astrophysical Journal Letters, Nature
• Five invited talks by Tsuruta and students at national and international meetings
• Two new regular NASA research grants obtained to continue this work
• Karen Leighly, Tsuruta's most recent Ph.D. student, now a postdoc at Goddard Space Flight Center
